THE NATIONAL CIVIL WAR MUSEUM ANNOUNCES 3RD ANNUAL WINTER COMMUNITY FREE DAY

The National Civil War Museum will welcome visitors to the Museum with free admission on Saturday, February 14, 2009, coinciding with President's Day weekend. Free admission to the Museum’s galleries will be available to all visitors!

As part of the Museum’s celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s bicentennial, James Hayney will be at the Museum portraying the famous President. Visitors will be able to enjoy a visit with General Ulysses S. Grant and a ladies’ clothing demonstration with Mrs. Grant. The reenactment group Thompson’s Independent Battery C will be back at the Museum to recruit new volunteers into the Union Army, as well as give presentations on baseball during the Civil War.

Joan Cashin, history professor at Ohio State University and author of First Lady of the Confederacy: Varina Davis’ Civil War will be lecturing on her book and available to sign books afterwards. First Lady is also the featured book selection for the February 25th book club at the Museum. Especially for Valentine’s Day, the Victorian Dance Ensemble will be inviting visitors to learn a dance with their sweethearts. Visitors for the Community Free Day will also be able to enjoy the Museum’s new exhibit, sponsored by M&T Bank: Personal History: Stories of the War, which officially opens to the public today.
