Harrisburg, PA (June 29, 2005) -
The
National Civil War Museum, located just off State and Market Streets in
Reservoir Park, Harrisburg, will offer FREE AND REDUCED ADMISSIONS
THROUGHOUT THE JULY FOURTH HOLIDAY WEEKEND.
In
response to the President’s urging to thank a man or woman in uniform
over the 4th of July weekend, The National Civil War Museum
will offer a special no cost admission rate to veterans, active duty
military service members, military retirees, and National Guard personnel,
as well as police, fire and EMS workers.
All other guests of the Museum will be admitted at a discounted
rate of just $2 per person.
Typically
closed on Federal holidays, the Museum is pleased to help honor the
request of President Bush by thanking the men and women who have served,
and are currently serving our country.
“The
National Civil War Museum, on the eve of another Gettysburg battle
anniversary, is pleased to offer a thank you to those that have served and
continue to serve our country,” explained George E. Hicks, Chief
Executive Officer. “Spending
a day at the Museum is a wonderful way to reflect upon our Nation’s
heritage.”
Fought
across the nation, the American Civil War was one of the most important
events in the history of our land. Its
effects have been indelible, changing everything from politics and economy
to industry and business - - not to mention freedom, as we know it.
The
National Civil War Museum is the first museum of its kind, a place where
you can observe the multitude of human experiences that made up the war
and helped define the America we enjoy today.
From
slavery, to camp life, to the furor of battle, the Museum immerses
visitors in the Civil War.
Focusing
on the entire Civil War, from beginning to end, the Museum brings history
to life with extensive collections of Union and Confederate artifacts,
balanced portrayals of events, high definition videos and life-size
dioramas.
The
Museum, which has an on-site, full-service café and museum shop, will be
open Saturday, July 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday,
