His experiences and those of his fellow soldiers were the subject of the book Black Hawk Down and movie of the same name. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal\, the Purple Heart\, the Bronze Star with Valor Device and many other awards.\nDurant's story of survival serves as an inspirational speech for numerous audiences.
