DESCRIPTION:A companion to the newly released A Life In Letters\, Joshua&nbsp;L. Chamberlain\, the exhibit looks at various milestones in the life of one of Maine&rsquo;s most accomplished sons.A graduate of Bowdoin College\, who became a professor\, a Civil War hero\, Governor of Maine\, and president of Bowdoin\, J.L. Chamberlain&rsquo;s life is examined through the many letters written to his wife and friends\, during his long career of public service. The exhibit is supported by artifacts from Chamberlain&rsquo;s life including a sampling of his letters\, a small baseball bat carved from a tree at Appomattox\, the top hat he wore as Governor of Maine\, and his commission as Major General of the Maine State Militia.\n&nbsp;\nhttp://www.nationalcivilwarmuseum.org/Calendar/tabid/83/vw/3/itemid/47/d/20120616/Default.aspx
