Lessons in History Program – with Dr. Karin J. Bohleke
Harrisburg, PA 17103
The National Civil War Museum will examine the evolution of women’s fashion beyond the American Civil War with Dr. Karin J. Bohleke, Director of Fashion Archives and Museum at Shippensburg University.
This very special presentation, in honor of Women’s History Month, features Dr. Bohleke presenting Civil War Dress in Context: The Evolution of Women’s Fashions in the Victorian Era. Although they are frequently examined in isolation, women’s fashions of the Civil War era represent one phase of an evolving continuum that was equally elegant. This lecture will explore the major changes in women’s stylish garments during the years of Queen Victoria’s reign, 1837 to 1901.
The 2017 Lessons in History program is free to the public. Regular museum admission applies for entrance to the museum galleries.
