John Fitzpatrick Presentation: "There is no fail here"

09/04/2009 12:00pm - 1:15pm

Why did President Lincoln come to Gettysburg on November 18 & 19, 1863?

Why did President Lincoln, a careworn, caring, concerned and conflicted Chief Executive come to Gettysburg in the middle of the American War, with no end in sight, when he was not invited as the keynote speaker and the Dedication Ceremony was organized and orchestrated by the Governors of the 18 Northern States whose soldiers fought and died in the Gettysburg Campaign.  How did all the complex personal, political and policy pressures (military and national) impact him and his immortal Gettysburg address?

Entrance to the presentation is included with the purchase of a Museum admission ticket.
