2023 Community Free Day

February 18 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The National Civil War Museum and United Concordia Dental announce the NCWM Community Free day on February 18, 2023, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, celebrating Black History Month and Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. The NCWM is re-opening after a planned closure to perform scheduled maintenance. We thank everyone who contributed to our Gallery Upgrade Appeal, allowing us to refurbish some exhibits.

The NCWM is proud to provide activities and entertainment for the community free of charge to visitors. Family activities include a coloring activity grab & go station, dental display, the Sanitary Commission Quilts Reproduction Station, Music with the Long Hill String Band, Dean Auchenbach: Recruitment into the Army, the U.S. Sanitary Commission, and much more.

James Hayney portrays Abraham Lincoln and will deliver a special presentation, and the 3rd USCT Colored Troops will be on hand to talk to visitors and answer questions.

In addition to the scheduled programming, the NCWM will open its newest temporary exhibit, “Greatness Thrust Upon Them,” sponsored by Abel & Son Roofing and Siding. This exhibit, on display through January 31, 2023, examines the leaders during the American Civil War who became legendary.

The National Civil War Museum will follow CDC and OSHA/HHS guidance as well as orders and recommendations from federal/state/local governments and our state and local health officials.
